Reasons for support:

Some of the reasons for support we've received so far include: • Pulverised fuel ash (PFA) will be a key mineral in the net zero transition, crucial to helping the construction industry decarbonise. • Each tonne of PFA used instead of Portland cement will save 0.8 tonnes of carbon. This project is expected to save upwards of 5 million tonnes of carbon across its lifetime. • This project will generate economic benefits in the local and wider area through the creation of approximately 20-30 new full-time jobs at the site and up to 60 jobs in local supply chains. • Help create a new industry in an area which has in recent history seen industrial jobs decline- the project is worth £30 million of investment into the local area. • Hive are proposing a local jobs for local people initiative, that would seek to fill apprenticeships and full time jobs through local workers. • A £1.3 million community benefit fund provided by Hive Aggregates for local parish councils and organisations. • Significant business rates payment to the local authority. • This project will improve local biodiversity by restoring the site to improved habitats that complement the Idle Valley Nature Reserve. • Create a domestic supply of a key material for the construction sector, increasing self-sufficiency and reducing the UK reliance on imports.
